Fixing Chips & Scratches with Scratch Fix 2in1™ and Premium Touch-Up Repair Kit

It's easy to keep your car protected and looking like new. In just 7 simple steps, you can repair nicks and scratches with professional results.

Step 1:

Spot Putty (as necessary)
Apply spot putty to deep chips or scratches using a clean straight edge such as a plastic squeegee, or carefully use a razor blade. Sand putty surface smooth with enclosed sandpaper. Before sanding, allow putty to dry 30 minutes. Remove adhesive backing from sandpaper and apply to sanding block. Do not over sand.

Step 2:

Prime Surface (as needed)
Prime bare metal with Dupli-Color Grey Primer (Part # NGSF031). Shake tube vigorously before using. To use Pen: Unscrew the black cap and remove and discard the orange insert. Apply thin, even coats in one direction, when using roller ball or brush, allow 10 to 20 minutes between coats. Try to contain primer application to the nicked area. Surface will be completely dry and ready for Step 4 in 30 minutes. NOTE: If roller ball becomes clogged, hold pen vertically and tap pen lightly or remove the black cap and soak it in lacquer thinner.

Step 3:

Wet Sand Primed Surface
With enclosed sandpaper and sanding block, lightly wet sand primed area until primed surface is smooth. Always keep sanding surface wet during sanding process. Do not over sand, check surface frequently (sand a few strokes and check).

Step 4:

Paint – With Your Dupli-Color Exact Match Color
Apply your Dupli-Color exact match touch-up paint. Shake tube vigorously before using roller ball tip or brush. To use Pen: Unscrew the black cap and remove and discard the orange insert. Apply a thin coat, allow 15 to 30 minutes to dry, apply second coat if necessary. After use, wipe roller ball clean and replace cap. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying Clearcoat. NOTE: If roller ball becomes clogged, hold pen vertically and tap pen lightly or remove the black cap and soak it in lacquer thinner.

Step 5:

Clear Coat – With Dupli-Color Clear Top Coat
To ensure a perfect factory match, seal and protect your finish with Dupli-Color® Clear Top Coat (Part # NGSF125). Allow paint to dry 12 to 24 hours before applying Clearcoat. Shake bottle vigorously before using pen or brush applicator. To use Pen: Unscrew the black cap and remove and discard the orange insert. To Brush: Unscrew cap and remove excess Clear top coat from brush. Apply thin coats in one direction. Cover the entire area you have repaired with a very slight overlap. (Vehicle can be used one hour after clear top coat is applied.) NOTE: If roller ball becomes clogged, hold pen vertically and tap pen lightly or remove the black cap and soak it in lacquer thinner.

Step 6:

Final Wet Sand
Allow Clearcoat to dry 24 hours before wet sanding. Wet sand surface with sandpaper and sanding block. Thoroughly soak paper and block before sanding. Always keep the sanding area wet during the process. Check surface smoothness frequently (sand a few strokes and check). Do not over sand. Contain sanding to the clear-coated area. Surface will haze during this process. When complete, wipe with clean dry cloth.

Step 7:

Final Touch – Finishing Compound
Apply Dupli-Color Finishing Compound directly to the center of the repair area. Hand buff with a clean, soft cloth. Buff straight across the repair in multiple directions. This step will remove haze, enhance color and remove light surface scratches. Re-apply to remove surface scratches if needed. (For a superior result, repeat this step after one week.) Wipe clean and apply a good car wax for maximum shine and appeal.
